Interesting article – I wonder now, given its recent announcement, if the Autumn book ‘Raising Steam’ is completely new or a modified ‘Raising Taxes’.

I’ve not been happy with the last two books (Dodger and the Long Earth) and feel that LIFE is making an understandable impact on these current works. It’s like the school summer hols where you know you have 6 weeks to do the things you want to do but in the final week you still have 5 weeks’ worth of stuff undone. I felt Dodger was such a predictable story with every historical references known thrown in; while the Long Earth is a 25+ year old idea that had to be put on hold due to the popularity of Discworld but if it doesn’t appear now it will be lost forever. I haven’t read any of the collaborating authors work so don’t know what influence he has had on the book but if the High Meggas series had been released rather than Discworld I doubt I would be reading Terry’s work.
