    Hello Lyia. :)
  2. Pixel New Member

No way! Can she do the "Extra option"? And if so, will she spend more time looking for something to protect her modesty? No, Greebo rules!
  3. mowgli New Member

Please... Greebo doesn't waste time looking for modesty protection, so why should she?
  4. Pixel New Member

Sorry, you're wrong there - Greebo on one occasion while using the "Extra option" tries to protect his modesty using a basin of warm lard, but then goes for a different but empty kitchen utensil. If Sherelan's avatar can do the "Extra option" then she needs rather more in the way of coverage, or she could join Angua and Sally in the (almost) mud-wrestling scene in Thud (sorry, a mini-spoiler there)
  5. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

    For God's sake, Pixel!

Igormina, Sherelan and Lyia, welcome to the boards!

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

My mother bought me The Mists of Avalon for my 13th birthday. When the internet came along I started using Avalon as my name - but since that's fairly popular and because I have been known to be a girl who can kick some butt - I put grrl on the end of it.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    Umm... female obviously.

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I just turned 30 and don't want to talk about it. I live in New York, USA.

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Yes, I do believe it COULD be done. Unfortunately, with hollywood's unbelievable ability to make anything suck... who knows if it would.

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

My Partner was already a fan. I read the first one and fell absolutely in love with Rincewind... I know, I'm probably the only one... but, what can I say - he makes my heart flutter. :)

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

    Oh God, make it stop...

Hi, Datingdeath! Welcome to the boards. :) Why not have a go at answering some of the questions in the first post of this thread?
  15. datingdeath New Member

    Hello

    1) The motivational impetus for my chosen screenname was that I think that the character of DEATH is soooooo sexy and deeper still, we all die sometime so it like we dating him til it our time to be taken out for good.
    • 2) I am a female.
    • 3) My age is 41 and I should know better and I live in East Yorkshire, England.
    • 4) I have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well, I have every faith in the directors, actors etc of today's movie scenes to know that characters, situations and ideas from the books could be done to the high standards we as fans would expect. The recent Hogfather series on sky was a hit and the animated Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters were testiment to this.
    • 5) I like sci-fi books, came across the Colour of Magic when I was in my 20s and was hooked from then on.
    • 6) My personal quote of the day is from DEATH himself:
SIXPENCE IS SIXPENCE. BUT CORN IS NOT JUST CORN.
  16. Tiffany New Member

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Tiffany always comes across as being about as weird as me, so thought it just kind of fitted... unfortunately i can't do any cool magic tricks though

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

    female

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

    20-something, north england

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

sure, it could be, but hogfather didn't really impress me so I'm not holding my breath

    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

a couple of my mates used to read them, I borrowed thief of time (then new-ish) and got hooked :)

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

shit happens (yep - it's one of those days already :))
  17. Maljonic Administrator

    Hello Tiffany. :)

Hi Tiffany! Welcome to the boards. :)

Datingdeath, are you a bit of a Goff? ;)

    Hello Everyone

    • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
Violet is a shade of my favorite color Purple.
    • 2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    I am female.
    • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
A lady never tells her age, except to say that I am over 25. I live in central North America... Louisiana to be exact.

    • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Anything is possible with the right motivation and the right technology applied. I look forward to seeing what the great minds out there can produce for us fans.
    • 5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I happened upon a copy of Wyrd Sisters, while I was in a Comic book shop in Bedford around 1988 or 89, and I was hooked instantly. I have been acquiring Terry Pratchett's Disc World books ever since.
    • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?
"Breethe Deep... It's all going to work out."

  24. mowgli New Member

Welcome! Yay, now we have TWO folks from the South!
  25. redneck New Member

I didn't hear her drawl one time. I think she's a transplant. A professor of mine would always ask this question when someone claimed to be from the South, "What was the name of Robert E Lee's horse?" I got it right without having to look it up. Of course I had read a book about the horse a few years before.

The book is very interesting. It takes a look at the Civil War through the eyes of Lee's horse. It's by Richard Adams (author of Watership Down).

By the way, welcome Violet and anyone else that I haven't welcomed! What part of LA are you from, Violet? I'm in northeast Mississippi so that makes us neighbors. "Howdy neighbor!"
  26. mowgli New Member

Yipes, Redneck - the poor woman just moved in and you're already questioning her Southerness!

Violet, please stick around, we West-globers need more people to be awake at the same time with
  27. Tiffany New Member

    hey Violet :)
  28. Violet New Member

The Truth is I am a Southern transplant... Yipes dont flog me now.
The life story is... (this is the short version I promise)

I grew up in Central Minnesota, and after I was 18 I joined the military and was stationed in England. I lived in England for 7 years then returned to the US where I spent nearly 10 years in Delaware. Now I am transplanted again to Louisiana... and for those inquiring minds out there, I live in the Northwest corner near the Texas/Arkansas/Louisiana border.

PS Thank you all for the warm welcome.

    Violet
  29. redneck New Member

But I was right, wasn't I? So there.

Violet, transplants are fine. As mowgli says, we do need more "West-globers".

I got to thinking about something my dad always said, "You can always tell if a Southerner is level headed in the first five minutes of lookin' at him. If he's level headed the tobacco spit runs out both sides of his mouth."

Violet, here's to you staying here a long time. Cheers.
  30. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

I'm wondering which of our resident Southerners isn't included!

Violet, welcome to the boards! :)
  31. redneck New Member

Grace, you know that Clay doesn't count. He left. For a Limey! :D

(Just kidding, Clay. Please don't smiteth me.)
  32. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

You only have to see him cooking to know it's impossible to pretend he's not a Southerner.
  33. redneck New Member

You should get it on video so that we can experience it.
  34. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

Let's just say that it was while cooking some stressful meal that he was heard to utter the words, "When Ah holler, Ah want you to git in here lickety-split!"
  35. mowgli New Member

I sit corrected  - make that two and a half Southerners, which should account for Garner's residual Southernishness!
  36. sammi New Member

    I'm new - hello!

What a great board! Hello to everyone.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

    female
    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I really enjoyed the Hogfather and have every confidence of a good movie. (I'd go and see it and buy it even if it did suck!)
    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
My mum introduced me to the books when I was 11 because I wouldn't go to sleep and she wanted peace to read. I have loved him ever since, even had to replace a few books because I read them so often.
    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

And in answer to the later question, its a tie between Pratchett and Eddings for me.

A neighbour loaned The Colour Of Magic to me in 1989, I've been a fan since.

    Welcome, Sammi, Detritus, and Geekworld.

Detritus, I'm just finishing up Witches' Brew, the fifth book of the Magic Kingdom of Landover series. This is my second time reading them, and I like them quite a bit. I just don't like how he kinda changes the storyline at times. Not a big deal, but it sometimes makes me wonder if I misread that portion earlier, only to find out that he has embellished his previous idea without letting the reader know about it.
  40. Detritus New Member

I know what you mean, but it's still one of my all time favs.:D

Should also mention here that the Piers Anthony, Split Infinity trilogy is worth a read too.

Not totally convinced. I already know what the characters look like, they look totally different to any actor I know and Nanny Ogg definately looks like the old woman who used to live down the road!
    • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Hi everyone, I just joined so I have a place to chat with Discworld lovers and continue my mission of procrastinating at work. I'm a bit of a lurker, so may not post very often, but I have enjoyed reading these boards over the last little while.
    • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
It's a street near my house and I use it on other boards.
    2) Male or Female?
    Female
    • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
Horrified to have turned 40 last year and unsure how it happened. In Toronto, Canada.
    • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Haven't seen Hogfather yet, but having seen the cartoons, I'm not sure. So much of what's funny in Discworld is the author's voice and way of describing things. In the cartoon series, the dialogue and events are there, but without Pratchett's turn of phrase, the humour falls flat. I felt this with the Hitchiker's Guide movie, too.
    • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I reread Douglas Adams in times of great stress and, since I have a happy life, I'm usually not stressed by the time I get to the end of the "trilogy." Had a very stressful pregnancy with lots of complications. Ran out of Douglas Adams and was looking for something similar. Had a vague recollection of reading CoM years ago. Stumbled upon The Truth and was absolutely hooked. Baby was fine, all was well and a Pratchett fan was born (along with a baby who will one day be a Pratchett fan -- she loves Where's my Cow?).

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

Can't come up with something snappy right now, but it would involve trying very hard not to kill my supervisors. .

Look forward to "meeting" you on the Boards.

    1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
There used to be a big statue of an orca at the entrance to our village. Unfortunately, many years ago, a big tree fell on top of it in a storm. It still hasn't been replaced.

    2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
    Female

    3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
29, right next to a lot of water somewhere in the middle of Holland

    4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Well, I thought Hogfather didn't suck at all. But I think a lot of Terry's best writing, which is mostly the thoughts people have, will be lost in film
    5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I bought the first 5 books after reading an interview with Terry in SFX

    6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"Nobody move. You're surrounded by armed bastards." - the Gene genie
