In a recent interview with ITN Sir Terry said he wanted his fans to know that he will never sell out to Hollywood. He said that the one time he was almost involved with a Hollywood studio they took his work and created a script that misinterpreted practically everything he was trying to say in his story. Sir Terry said he was fortunate that they didn't make the movie in the end. He had a lucky escape because he was paid an initial fee and retained the rights to his story.
Sir Terry told ITN that he much prefers working with smaller movie makers, like Mob Films, because he gets a lot more say on how the film is made and how the characters look and behave. In fact, he said, that it's nice working with Mob Films because they actually ask him questions about his stories, such as "When you were writing, who did you have in mind for Adora Belle Dearheart? Who did you think would be Mustrum Ridcully?". Sir Terry says he's particularly pleased with Mob's work on Going Postal.
Of course Alzheimer's came up in the conversation, which Sir Terry says is inevitable in any interview or article about him, so it doesn't bother him so much. However, he went on to say "What does worry me... is that people just home in on it and totally forget all about the books and movies."
The movie version of Going Postal has just been released on DVD: Get Going Postal from Amazon.co.uk
