from the Chester Evening Leader (UK):
A TEENAGER is on the road to stardom after winning his first major TV role.
Kyle Herbert, 14, is filming for a BBC children’s drama, Johnny and the Bomb.
The talented member of Stagecoach Theatre School, Chester, beat off hundreds of hopefuls to make his name on the small screen.
Johnny and the Bomb is a remake of the Terry Pratchett novel that sees a 12-year-old boy become a time traveller.
Kyle, a pupil at Elfed High School, Buckley, plays “Wobbler”, one of Johnny’s friends, alongside famous names like Zoe Wanamaker.
The 14-year old has to split his time between filming in South Wales and completing his school work, thanks to the help of an on-set tutor.
Cheering him on back home is mum Michelle and 11-year old sister Rhia.
Michelle said: “This is something he’s worked hard for for a very long time. To get this is brilliant. Obviously with TV work you get a lot of knockbacks. They went all over the country with these children and he did really well. He has an agent who put him forward for the first audition and it went on from there. He was over the moon.
“He’s been at Stagecoach for seven years and done quite a lot of theatre work. They’ve been brilliant. He was thinking of packing in at one point, but they encouraged him to carry on. The school has also been very understanding.
“It’s an experience for such a young age, but also very tiring. He has two lovely chaperones and a tutor. He usually spends about four days near Cardiff, before coming home.”
