On Monday, I noticed I had this communications program installed on my PC. It was added last year when a Scottish friend suggested we try it as an alternative to BT. Personally I think he just wanted to save money on free calls, you know the reputation most Scotsmen have with money.
Well, I installed the new update, discovered I still had a friend list, yes friend, and gave it another go.
Hey, it works very well this time round. Even with my 99p webcam from Aldi. (Selling cheap because they are not compatible with the Vista operating system). Great value!
And, incidentally, quite good resolution.
With my uncanny knack of getting into strange situations, I was asked if I had Skype installed by someone in a chat room. Wow! things have taken on a new light when talking to people.
You just be careful with the time differences.
I can chat for a few hours at the start of the day. Get on with my work later than usual, but there's always time to finish it. Then I can continue the chat just as I'm ready for bed, but the other person has now just eaten breakfast and is ready for another session. Yes! There's a whole new meaning of 24/7 computing.
I have to admit that after a few days, the green spiders and purple rhinos start infiltrating your peripheral vision, but I wouldn't change a thing. New friends are a delight to make and its a good way to learn about other cultures, learn a spattering of a foreign language and eventually run yourself into a nervous breakdown.
Well done Skype for setting my health back ten years.

*Although, it's also a necessary one. How else am I supposed to make friends?
