That read like a tabloid headline.

Well, a polite one.

I don't actually have an answer for you. I'm just here to provide useless commentary.

Hm... Allow me the question, why do you ask? Forgot the ending and gave the book to a friend? Or was it unclear from the text?

Just in case, highlight the following text if you don't mind spoilers:
Quote:
Vimes felt that he could see all the way along the tube, to the little slug of metal that was soon to launch itself at him . . .
'It's a shame,' said Cruces, 'if only you had—'
Carrot stepped in front of the gonne. His arm moved in a blur. There was hardly a sound.
Pray you never face a good man, Vimes thought. He'll kill you with hardly a word.
Cruces looked down. There was blood on his shirt. He raised a hand to the sword hilt protruding from his chest, and looked back up into Carrot's eyes.
'But why? You could have been—'
And he died.
Edit to add: Maybe this belongs in the Watch Books Forum, at least in the long run?

I'm moving this thread to the Watch books forum, mainly because of the spoilers. Shout if you object.

Wasn't this in Men At Arms & Carrot stabs him with his sword going through him & into the wall behind.

Yeah I'm pretty sure about this.

Um... yes, as Ba said three posts ago, and as can be told from the spoiler text in my quote above (you have to highlight it to read it).
