I just gave Smoking_Gnu a warning about cheating on the games; he scored 11 out of 10 on the Discworld Quiz, which is of course impossible.
Now he says he has no idea how it happened and I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt being new and all, and perhaps there is a way to do this by accident - if anyone knows how please let us know. Anyway I just deleted his score on that game and stated that cheating and underhand behaviour of any kind anywhere on the site could lead to a permanent ban. It's not so much that the games are a big deal as far as I'm concerned, just that we probably would rather not interact with people who'd want to cheat on them. That's my opinion. Anyway, in all likelihood Smoking_Gnu hasn't done anything intentionally wrong, with some help I'm looking into some code to prevent this kind of thing in the future (there'll always be a smart arse now and again who'll have a go at cheating game scores though); I just wanted this to be a warning to anyone who is thinking about cheating now or in the future that ALL their scores will be removed entirely and all their effort will be for nothing. |

given the weirdness with poll results i heard about, i would wonder if this might not be a rare and bizzare scripting bug somehow?
still, i agree with the warning. the thing about a 'first warning' is that it's nothing but a warning. it doesn't mean you can't post, it doesn't mean you owe a fine, it just means you've been notified of a potential source of contention or problem that needs to be addressed. |
