I realised that we need an introduction thread for the same reason the old introduction thread was started. Partly to let newbies introduce themselves to us but also to introduce us 'oldies' to new people. The questions are unashamedly ripped from Garner's original thread.
  • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
  • 2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
  • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
  • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
  • 5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
  • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Edited to add the question Mal suggested

1 Mynona is the Swedish word for annonymous backwards.

2 Female

3I'm currently 22 years old and I live just outside of Gothemburg, Sweden.

4 After seening H2G2 I'm not sure that if they make a move it'll totally suck. They can make it suck just partially. I'd go and see it, anyways.

5 I saw a cool cover in the shop one day, three hours later I'd read Mort. Haven't been able to stop since.

6 Emil: "1½+½+1 equals 4"

Edited because Mal suggested we'd add a question.

    My real name switched around.

  • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Badgered constantly by friend into submission.
  • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?

We could add male or female to this, there's been a lot of confusion with that in the past?

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Its that stuff you wash stuff up with, I saw it and said 'why not'.

2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

female

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

16, live in singapore originally scottish

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

no, just no. Movies are completely different to books. When linked, people tend to see the film before the book becasue film takes less time and then when (or if) they read the books, the experience has changed for them because someone has already forced them to see the characters in a certain way.

5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

first book was the wee free men. Lots of little blue people wearing kilts...the scot was instantly dragged in.

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

on the other hand...you have different fingers

So, who am I, who am I? Why you ask, oh why, oh why?

1. My real name is the basis for the screen name. My first name is Roman, and my last name begins with a K, ergo the name. An interesting fact is that the name 'Roman', in my case, is in fact an elabourate masquerade. I was named after my uncle, who was originally named Reuven, but had to change his name because the Soviet Republic was not a nice place to be Jewish in.

2. Male.

3. I'm currently 20, and reside in Lod, Israel. Israel is a good place. Lod isn't.

4. Maybe. Then again, after the H2G2 movie, maybe not.

5. Found the one good Hebrew translation of Pratchett, this being The Colour of Magic. The company in question only published this one book, with a rather horrible cover, and the rights were later sold to another company who used Kirby's covers, but knew shit-all about translation.

I am now a frequent client on Amazon, though.

6. "Racial Holy War is so damn lame it even makes the white race look like shit." by Sartin, I think. The quote will make more sense once I post my newest topic.

Anticipate charity by preventing poverty. - Rabbi Moshe ben-Maimon

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

My dad has a fridge magnet which he keeps on the filing cabinet in his office which says "fatten up your friends - it'll make you look thinner!" and it's got a little penguin saying "More fudgecake?". It was the first thing my eye landed on when I chose my screenname... could have been worse, I could have been "Jazzy patterned curtains." And fudgecake is yummy.

2) Are you male or female?

Female.

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

I'm nearly 16 (September 27th) and I live in North Yorkshire.

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Yes, I believe it can be done. They managed Lord of the Rings alright. I think if a lot of work was put in and you had a really, REALLY good special effects team, it could be great!

5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

My parents have all the books and they bought me the audio tape of Diggers to listen to when I was about 8. (I think... my memory ain't what it used to be in't good old days, like. ) then I started reading the Nome Trilogy, and then The Amazing Maurice and the Wee Free Men. Then I started the actual Discworld series. So, yay!

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

The one I've been TRYING to get into my signature, but it keeps not working... "I only hope my heartfelt thanks will keep you warm as you spend the next ten years in FROZEN CARBONITE!!" ~ Stewie Griffin, Family Guy

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

It felt right, at the time.

2) Male or Female?

Can't you see the name?

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

15, "the good old youthful years". Whoever told you that, must be old. Midlands

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Hard, but LOTR and HHGTTG worked out alright.

5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

A mate thrusted Mort into my hands after I had said that TP sucked. Maybe he doesn't now.. *hangs head in shame*

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"When life gives you lemons, throw them at people you dont like and hope it gets them in thier eyes" -Anon-

Is it a bit too late to add another question? "Who is your fave author apart from TP and why?" I think it'll make it a but more informative.

EEE hee hee hee!!! Wow! I like that one!

As for that last question, my favourite author apart from TP is probably David Eddings. He isn't a patch on Tezzer though.

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

I was reading "The Truth" at the time

2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)

Female

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

26, Greece

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Only if we get Peter Jackson hooked. Oh, and get the idiots who said that "Mort" would be better without Death shot first.

5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

I had read LOTR, The Silmarillion and the Harry Potter books and I was looking for something else, when in the book column of a comic magazine I saw the newest translation of "Sourcery" spoken highly of.

I didn't fancy the first five books much (the only ones translated into greek, mind), but "The Fifth Elephant" made me a huge fan and I have been a huge fan ever since.

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

I like driving to Isaac Hayes

1) Amalgamation of first part of first and last name. (My mind goes completely blank when asked to do something imaginative)

2) Female

3) 35, Sandwich, Kent

4) Possible, just as long as you keep the holywood types away from it. I'd love to see one.

5) Can't actually remember. Probably looked at in the library or bookshop somewhere around the time equal rites was published. I have a tendency to flick through interesting books to see what they're like.

6) Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon.

I have lurked on the old board, but this looks fun so I'm a-joining!

1. I thought up 4 nicknames, rolled a die, got a different one and decided I wanted this one anyway. I am usually known as Rani Drummond (or Donna to those of you who know me), but I felt like a change so I named myself after Hermes, the Winged Messenger.

EDIT: Just discovered Hermes is a member here - now I feel unoriginal and potentially confusing! :(

2. Female, mostly. It's a sliding scale, you know.

3. 23, Hastings, England.

4. I'm sure it's possible, it just needs to be very well made. However, they probably shouldn't try cos a bad one would be tragic.

5. My mum decided (can't remember why) that we should read discworld books together. So we did.

6. Be nice to other people; they outnumber you 5.5 billion to one.

The author question: that's a hard one. I don't tend to follow an author, I just try to find time to read random good books. And, probably unlike a lot of people here, I'm not usually a fan of sci-fi or fantasy. I do like such inspirational cheese as Starhawk and Paulo Coehlo.

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
Tephlon used to be my Tag/Grafitti name. It's very individual and because of the weird spelling easy to search for...

2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Male, last time I checked.
(Can we add something to this like: "Optional response, if you don't feel like answering this question, don't."?)

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
31, Portugal, born and raised in the Netherlands though.

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Yes.
Lord of the Rings/Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas showed that it is possible to make a faithfull adaptation of a book. Terry would have to be very deeply involved though. Peter Jackson or Terry Gilliam would have to direct. If Spielberg, George Lucas or James Cameron so much as look at the script they should be tazered. [bzzzzzzt]

5) Who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
Read good omens, then a colleague lent me Mort.

6) What's your personal quote of the day?
See signature.

7) Who's your favorite author (F/M) besides Pratchett
Douglas Adams, although Carl Hiaasen makes me smile too.

Edit: Stray code

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

I remember the word from The 5th Elephant I think. The 10 came in because someone else had already stolen Colonesque on the old board, and I like continuity.

2) Male or Female?
Male

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

26 (just), Runcorn in the North West

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

I'd say i'm probably 50/50 on whether they should try to make a film, i'd see it but it may spoil some of the image in my head, and boy those images are already spoiled.

5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

A friend of mine had it in school one day and the cover got me.

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"If you want a biscuit, then you must be fat"
