Thanks Mowgli. Excited to be here. And yes, I am from Minnesota. Got to love the warm midwest in January.

  • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?

Max from the Mission Impossible Films
  • 2) Male or Female?
    Feale
  • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?

21 in a 35 year old body, England - Derbyshire
  • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)

Not totally convinced. I already know what the characters look like, they look totally different to any actor I know and Nanny Ogg definately looks like the old woman who used to live down the road!
  • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?

Picked Colour of Magic of the bookshelf at St Pancras Station in 1990 and didn't look back.
  • 6) what's your personal quote of the day?

What are you laughing at? heard throughout the land from non TP readers

Hi everyone, I just joined so I have a place to chat with Discworld lovers and continue my mission of procrastinating at work. I'm a bit of a lurker, so may not post very often, but I have enjoyed reading these boards over the last little while.
  • 1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
It's a street near my house and I use it on other boards.
2) Male or Female?
Female
  • 3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
Horrified to have turned 40 last year and unsure how it happened. In Toronto, Canada.
  • 4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Haven't seen Hogfather yet, but having seen the cartoons, I'm not sure. So much of what's funny in Discworld is the author's voice and way of describing things. In the cartoon series, the dialogue and events are there, but without Pratchett's turn of phrase, the humour falls flat. I felt this with the Hitchiker's Guide movie, too.
  • 5) how, or by who, were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I reread Douglas Adams in times of great stress and, since I have a happy life, I'm usually not stressed by the time I get to the end of the "trilogy." Had a very stressful pregnancy with lots of complications. Ran out of Douglas Adams and was looking for something similar. Had a vague recollection of reading CoM years ago. Stumbled upon The Truth and was absolutely hooked. Baby was fine, all was well and a Pratchett fan was born (along with a baby who will one day be a Pratchett fan -- she loves Where's my Cow?).

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

Can't come up with something snappy right now, but it would involve trying very hard not to kill my supervisors. .

Look forward to "meeting" you on the Boards.

Hi Davenport, I like your screenname - it has a nice sound to it.

Q. How do you write?
A. One word at a time.

Last edited by randywine; 01-25-2008 at 00:04. Reason: Awful spelling (like a bad wizard).

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
There used to be a big statue of an orca at the entrance to our village. Unfortunately, many years ago, a big tree fell on top of it in a storm. It still hasn't been replaced.

2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Female

3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
29, right next to a lot of water somewhere in the middle of Holland

4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Well, I thought Hogfather didn't suck at all. But I think a lot of Terry's best writing, which is mostly the thoughts people have, will be lost in film
5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I bought the first 5 books after reading an interview with Terry in SFX

6) what's your personal quote of the day?

"Nobody move. You're surrounded by armed bastards." - the Gene genie

Hey, Blue Orca. Welcome to Boardania. I was wondering if the pug in your avatar is just a cute pic or if it was actually your dog.

I couldn't decide on just one quote... more to come.

"A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way." - Mark Twain

"Adam and Eve had many advantages but the principal one was that they escaped teething." - Mark Twain

"All you need is ignorance and confidence and the success is sure." - Mark Twain

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname? A love of Drama both watching and doing
2) Are you male or female? Female
3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into? I am ashamed to say that the big 40 looms. Currently living in Redcar, North Yorkshire but previously Bognor Regis, West Sussex
4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? I would love to say yes but I am afraid that until the day comes when someone who is a huge Pratchett fan, with a good understanding of Discworld AND the talent to raise the money required comes along............ well no I don't think its ever gonna happen
5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett? COM - picked it up in WHS in 1987 and never looked back (hate having to wait for the next one tho)
6) what's your personal quote of the day? There are as many different diets as there are excuses to eat biscuits

Hey, welcome Thespian Gal.
I stumbled a little about your nick, and, not being a native speaker and used to be confronted with English words I don't recognize, I was just about to ask what a spiangal was...

Welcome to the board.

I must confess I initially read your name rather like Hsing did. Your answer to question one did correct me quickly though.
