You only have to see him cooking to know it's impossible to pretend he's not a Southerner.

Let's just say that it was while cooking some stressful meal that he was heard to utter the words, "When Ah holler, Ah want you to git in here lickety-split!"

I sit corrected - make that two and a half Southerners, which should account for Garner's residual Southernishness!

Smile I'm new - hello! - 01-16-2008, 21:08

What a great board! Hello to everyone.

1) what formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
Its my name and theoretically should be easy to remember?
2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
female
3) what age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
I'm 31, at the moment I am living in Lincolnshire, UK
4) do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
I really enjoyed the Hogfather and have every confidence of a good movie. (I'd go and see it and buy it even if it did suck!)
5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
My mum introduced me to the books when I was 11 because I wouldn't go to sleep and she wanted peace to read. I have loved him ever since, even had to replace a few books because I read them so often.
6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Why me?

And in answer to the later question, its a tie between Pratchett and Eddings for me.

1) What formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
I particularly like the way a trolls brain works based on something as random as temperature, just like mine.
2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Male
3) What age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
46. (Not sure what category I am). Morayshire, Scotland.
4) Do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
Hogfather was a disappointment, but I'm the eternal optimist.
5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
A neighbour loaned The Colour Of Magic to me in 1989, I've been a fan since.
6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Look for what you want and if you can't find it.... create it.

And in answer to the later question, Terry Brooks for the Kingdom for Sale series.

1) What formed the motivational impetus for your chosen screenname?
It's the name of the webcomic I'm working on, and my (hopefully) soon-to-be store
2) Are you male or female? (Asking because there has been quite of lot of confusion over this, on and off.)
Male
3) What age catagory and geographic location do you fall into?
28. duluth, Minnesota, MidWest, USA.
4) Do you have good faith that a discworld movie COULD be done well enough not to suck? (note, this in no way shape or form asks about casting choices you'd like to see. i have a loaded rifle and i'm not afraid to use it.)
I enjoyed Hogfather, and I feel it's possible.
5) who or how were you turned on to discworld/pratchett?
I wanted to start reading a new author, closed my eyes in barnes and noble, and grabbed a random book. It turned out to be Guards! Guards!
6) what's your personal quote of the day?
Ummm...I didn't do it? That's my personal quote most every day.

Welcome, Sammi, Detritus, and Geekworld.

Detritus, I'm just finishing up Witches' Brew, the fifth book of the Magic Kingdom of Landover series. This is my second time reading them, and I like them quite a bit. I just don't like how he kinda changes the storyline at times. Not a big deal, but it sometimes makes me wonder if I misread that portion earlier, only to find out that he has embellished his previous idea without letting the reader know about it.

Should also mention here that the Piers Anthony, Split Infinity trilogy is worth a read too.
