  1. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Been playing some old CD compilations I recently rediscovered from some of my 33rpm vinyl LP's of the 60-70's. Does anyone else remember the greats of the time?
Picketywitch, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin?
  2. Buzzfloyd Spelling Bee

The above is also, therefore, what I am listening to.

Joculator, what do you mean, "Does anyone else remember?" [sarcasm] No, Jimi Hendrix has been lost in the mists of time, and no one above the age of 50 has any knowledge of his existence whatsoever. [/sarcasm] Likewise Tull, Skynyrd et al.

Although I have to point out that Lynyrd Skynyrd are fairly rubbish as rock bands go. I've been listening to a lot of The Who lately, and even Hendrix had to set things on fire to try and top their act.
  3. Joculator The 'Old' Fool

Ah well, I guess this old pioneer had better book himself into the Greenacres Home for the Happily Demented.
  4. Garner Great God and Founding Father

    don't recall hearing of picketywitch,

Tull are very well known by the youth fringe and anyone who's studied flute.

Skynyrd have their moments, but they don't really deserve rememberance. If you want Southern Rock, you need Dwayne and Greg.

Hendrix... well, I think Buzzfloyd already covered the sarcasm angle there. However, to refute her statement slightly... at the Monterey Pop Festival, Hendrix and The Who decided who would go on first by means of a coin toss. Townshend took a seat in the audience to watch Jimi's set, and someone - possibly Joplin, but I can't recall - was next to him. As Hendrix started in on the climax of his set and burning the guitar, the person next to Townshend turned to him and said "He's stealing your act!!"

Pete replied "No, honey, he's doing our act."

I disagree. They are the best group ever... for playing hangman, that is. (No vowels) :bunny:

My mix right now is quite varied. Jeff Buckley, The Who, The Guess Who, Dread Zeppelin, The Clancy Brothers, The Ventures, Guns n Roses, Simon and Garfunkel, Steve Miller Band, and Joni Mitchell.

I am currently cursing the Manic Street Preachers for doing a cover version of Umbrella (ella ella ella) that keeps being played on the radio and blaming it on Doors, quite obviously.

Pink Floyd ... always and forever.

I've been listening to The Cold War Kids a lot lately (White Stripes-light) Check out the track "Saint John" and you'll find yourself humming it five minutes later.

I also got a few new albums from The Detroit Cobras. Depressing band name, but entertaining music. They take old motown songs (never anything easily recognizable) and give them a bit of a garage rock cover.

I'm listening to a lot of jazz lately - Dave Brubeck at the moment.

Jonathan Coulton » The MP3 Store

Edit: please listen to Skullcrusher mountain, it's specially for Ba.

There are 10 Beatles albums albums in my library, 7 Black Sabbath albums, 3 Mountain Goats albums,1 Kid Rock album and a wav. file of Follow Your Dreams performed by/from a friend of mine that sounds about as good as any of the commercial recordings, I have the media player set for random and it works for me. I should maybe put some more of my CDs in there just for fun. I have Pinmonkey, Emerson Drive , Jim Croce and maybe a couple of others.
The Beatles sure have held up good, that music still works for me. I really need more though, I remember Face Dances being very important to me back in the day , but so was Rock lobster, The Ramones , Cyndy Lauper and Abba.

    Cool soundtrack in "Juno"
  18. Katcal I Aten't French !

Oh, yeah, the soundtrack was great in that film, the first thing I did when I got out of the cinema was pop into the local HMV to see if I could find it... I did, but as we had already blown almost 20€ on the cinema, I was persuaded to wait a bit... Oh well, some day soon.

The song at the finish, those two sitting and playing the guitar, man, that got stuck in my brain.
  20. Nester New Member

I haven't seen the movie, but I got the soundtrack right after one of my coworkers played The Moldy Peaches songs at work. I swear they have to be the most annoying band that you can't help but enjoy a bit.
  21. Katcal I Aten't French !

Yep, probably the geekiest-looking people I've seen in a long while, but that song just sticks in your brain. It was the soundtrack to an advert a year or so ago in France, for Adidas I think, or something like that and since then it's been lodged in a corner of my brain, Juno just tipped the boat a bit more.

I like the Step Up 2 soundtrack, although I think I like the soundtrack to the first Step Up movie better.
