I've just Googled the word spicey and found at least seventy pages of entries. The online Urban Dictionary and Merrian-Webster sites seem to accept the spelling and give several definitions of the word. They also list spicy, so maybe it's another case of an Americanized spelling being accepted in the UK. Well, I've always thought that Websters Dictionary was American.
Just to add another example, I caught a snippet of conversation this morning on the radio where someone was discussing his collection of cactis! Surely he mean cactuses? ![]() ![]() Don't drink and drive from The Lancre Tavern |

Really, I think it should be cacti. But cactuses is also accepted.
And spicey wasn't just an casually used Americanized phrase. It was the name of the stall! In big letters! I was ashamed when my parents bought "spicey" ales from them. |

I say lets go back to the time before spelling and we could do "spell as you feel" again... It'd be like those pay what you can / feel restaurants the 7th Days run.
There once was a man named Bruce Who liked to sit on a spruce He ate lots of chowder And yelled at me louder: "I'm talking to YOU, Mrs. Hughes!" --> The Literary Genius: Mowgli |

Nah, I think it's more in the grey.
Sometimes the problem is not with incorrect spelling but simply the use of the wrong word. Often with humorous results. For example... 1 - The traffic was being held up by a stationery van. 2 - The men armed themselves with rifles and went out hunting bare. 3 - The decline of the university's standards was attributed to the selection of bad principles over the years. 4 - The male was delivered by the postman Spelling and grammar are correct according to MS Word. I'd hate to start learning English as a second language. It was hard enough the first time round. ![]() ![]() Don't drink and drive from The Lancre Tavern |
