Default On the Matter of Shoes - 12-15-2008, 18:32

Iraqi Throws Shoes At Bush During Press Conference (VIDEO)(SLIDESHOW)

Two comments on the video and stills.

One - Bush has some nice reflexes there.

Two - Maliki is rather awesomely in control of himself.

"In Arab culture, the sole of the shoe is considered an insult"

yeah, cause in western culture, giving someone a stinky Dr Shoals inset is a proposal of matrimony.

My father says I shouldn't have been surprised at how good he was at ducking. Apparently he's been ducking things all his life

It was impressive though. But that guy should have been practicing! You know they'll duck when you lob something at them! You have to try to guess which way they'll go. And he had *2* chances! Fool.

May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house.

Yes, but in the middle east, even letting someone see the bottom of one's shoes is the equivalent of flipping them the middle finger. Actually touching them with the sole of the shoe results in a hospital stay.

Brilliant stuff, Avgi and Kat!!!

(My favorite so far is Maliki thinking "Must...not... laugh...") I mean, his actual expression is pretty priceless in itself!
